Questions

How long should a title tag be?

Around 50 to 60 characters on desktop and a little less on mobile. Google truncates by pixel width rather than character count, so a title in capitals or wide letters runs out of room sooner. Put the words that matter first and the exact length stops mattering much.

Why does the preview cut off at a different point than Google?

Because Google measures pixels and this measures characters. Character limits are a close approximation and a good working guide, but a title full of Ms and Ws will truncate earlier than one full of Is and Ls. Treat the cut-off line as roughly right, not exact.

Will Google use the description I write?

Often not. Google rewrites descriptions when it thinks a passage from the page fits the query better, and studies consistently find it rewrites the majority of them. Writing one is still worth it: it's what shows when it is used, and it forces you to state what the page offers.

Does the URL shown in results match my real URL?

Google shows a breadcrumb built from your site structure rather than the raw path, which is why this preview renders it with arrows. Short, readable paths look better here — another reason not to bury pages five folders deep.

Is anything I type here sent to your servers?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser — there is no request to us at all. You can check that yourself in your browser's network tab. Unpublished copy stays where you typed it.
